Garmin User Aug 15, 2005
By J. C. M. Bannerman I use four different Garmin GPS units, but the one that is of particular interest here is the Legend. The legend comes with a serial interface cable. The problem comes with the fact that I now use a laptop with no serial port for most of my GPS mapping purposes. Garmin does not provide a specific cable for linking the Legend to USB, and Garmin's USB-serial costs around 60 bucks. This cable does the trick quite nicely, but it is NOT plug and play. The software to run this does need to be installed, but the results are most satisfactory once installed.

Easy-to-use adapter for connecting a GPS Jan 24, 2007
By M. Fisher Like other reviewers, I bought this so I could attach my Garmin eTrex Legend GPS to my new computer, which doesn't have a serial port. The mini CD that came with it had the driver and a brief user manual. The manual said to install the driver before connecting the adapter, but I didn't read it so I did things in reverse order. (No problem.) The driver on the CD worked fine, though Windows XP MCE complained about it.
Pros: MUCH cheaper than Garmin's adapter, but just as functional
Cons: Old/non-Windows-compliant driver, no mention of proper order of installation on packaging (on CD)

Easy & quick Aug 04, 2006

I also have a Garmin eTrex Legend. I couldn't believe the cable was serial rather than usb! Anyway, I got this Sabrent cable and it works perfectly. I used the included disc to install the driver and in a few short minutes everything was ready to go. I bought it from an Amazon marketplace vendor rather than the direct link and saved a few bucks. Let's go geocaching!!!

doesn't work Feb 10, 2008

I wish I had read reviews more carefully before purchasing this useless product. I guess it's not technically useless so much as a colossal waste of time: each time you disconnect it, you must re-install the drivers when you re-connect it. If you purchase this for a notebook computer (as I did) you don't really want it hanging off the back at all times, which means re-installing drivers EVERY SINGLE TIME you use it. Will make a mental note never to purchase htis brand again.

works like a champ May 28, 2007
By Wayne Fischer this product loaded perfectly under the Windows Vista OS and works great with MapSource and my Garmin Rino 130. I would highly recommend this product to convert USB to serial bus adaptors ....
