Worked immediately Jun 25, 2010 The usb port on my Brother HL-5250DN Refurbished Network Ready Laser Printer with Duplex went bad after being bumped hard. It seemed like everything else still worked. I bought the exact same printer because it worked so well for me. I kept hoping to resurrect the broken one. With a pending move I have a need for a second printer. Before buying yet another printer I thought I would give this cable a try. I plugged it into my Mac Mini 2.26 Ghz Intel core 2 duo running Mac OS X version 10.6.3 and it worked immediately... no drivers needed!
Darn thing is for 98/ME! be warned! May 30, 2010 I had my Xerox printer driver set up for XP, then put the CD in that came with this converter, and was greatly disappointed that it's for Windows 98/ME! This is very ancient and outdated and won't work on most systems.

Windows 7 + HP LaserJet 2100 Work! May 03, 2010 It was a bit of a pain, but it worked!
The driver CD was useless. It only contained Win98 & ME. I just plugged the converter in, and Windows 7 loaded the drivers during plug & play. Windows didn't see my printer at that point. When I tried to add a printer, Windows 7 didn't have my printer driver. In the add printer dialog, click the Windows Update button. It took a long time, but eventually it displayed three drivers for the HP LaserJet 2100. PCL6 was generically recommended by HP, so that is what I used. (HP seems to have released a generic driver that supports many different legacy printer models.) It worked!
The vendor documentation is nearly non-existent.
Dynex is Best Buy. I actually bought it in the store, but they were no help. Your reviews were much more helpful! I hope my feedback helps you!
Note: There were a lot of open box items in the store. It isn't clear if there are lots of compatibility problems or if people just get frustrated. This is NOT as simple as buying a new printer, but it was just a few steps.
No problems with HP Laserjet 4P, Windows XP = Plug and Print! May 01, 2010 It was suspiciously easy, for a USB to parallel port device.
1) Connected the Parallel end of the Dynex to HP Laserjet 4p.
2) Made sure printer was ON, RESET TO DEFAULT SETTINGS, and ONLINE.
3) Plugged in the Dynex USB end into the computer.
4) Printer and Dynex were recognized instantaneously. HP LaserJet 4p appeared under printers, and I was able to print immediately.
Too good to be true for a device that tries to bridge the gap between two different technology eras.
I have seen reports that people had trouble with HP Printers, even 4p. Well, the problem must have been something else.
Make sure you plug in the Dynex to the printer first. Also, make sure that, if you manually mess with PRINTER PORT settings in the printer driver, you go for the USB Printing port.. it may be USB001 or USB002, try them all. I had to do none of that, however. Everything set up automatically, correctly, the first time.
Easy install - worked immediately! Apr 22, 2010 I have an HP4p B&W laserjet printer. Seller included URL to download the driver. Downloaded driver, connected cable - worked the first time!
This is a replacement cable - centronics end plugs into printer; USB end plugs into PC. You will not find a better price for a cable of this type. Quick shipment - great deal!
