Buggy web setup interface, stable once you get it going May 18, 2010 Some parts of the online setup interface on this router do not work well at all. Sometimes it seems that changes will only take effect if you stand on your head, click the mouse button with your pinky finger, and pray that the Belkin gods will see the wisdom of your configuration and apply your changes.
That said, the router is quite reliable once you do get it set up. I have used it in a standard home router configuration and also as a simple access point in a college dorm (letting the university's downstream DHCP server handle address assignment). Both setups result in reliable performance and good signal strength within a reasonable distance of the unit.
The only gripe I have about this router aside from the quality of the setup interface is that it only features the relatively weak WEP security, and not the superior WPA.
Never will buy Belkin again Aug 06, 2009
I have had this router for a few years now. Where should I start? Well, let talk about the web-based interface. It is so buggy that it does not work with Firefox. It only seems to work for Internet Explorer 6 and 7, because it seems to tolerate broken Javascript. I would use IE if I had it, but I am a Linux user, so none of the standards-based browsers that I have will not work at all.
I actually found were the bug was, but I can't do anything about. This leads to the second issue of support. I sent the issue to Belkin support, but there was never a response. Checking their support site, there is no firmware updates for this. None at all.
So, here's the scoop on what I cannot do. I cannot set any WEP keys, because buttons you need to use to apply the settings silently fail. Therefore, I cannot have a secure wireless, which makes this router useless to me.
I am sure that the newer products have better support, but I think I will spend my money on a Linksys WRT54G.

A terrible router overall Apr 01, 2009 This router was my 2nd router of 4 in a long history of using Belkin products. I trust their cables & adaptors, so I thought I could trust their wireless products. I was wrong. First off, the web interface doesn't work with Firefox properly, doing nothing when you click buttons, etc. The firmware update(which will never happen it seems) takes forever to tell you there's no new update. I recently switched back to this model after my netgear wireless router failed, and it just wouldn't work. The "connected" light wouldn't come on, nor could I even use a Cat5 connection. Just keep shopping around.

BELKIN CUSTOMER SUPPORT IS THE WORST! Jul 23, 2007 I have had this router for about a year. Whenever you call they always say it is an issue with the DSL service provider. No help at all. Does not work with my wireless laptop. Totally useless. I am throwing away as soon as I get my Linksys. Will never buy another Belkin product. When will these companies learn outsourcing customer support to other countries undermines their reliability.

Stable, but featureless Jul 24, 2006 The router is quite stable, at least compared to my Linksys router. I have never had to reset the Belkin, but with its great stabability comes its own problems. There is no way to disable wireless internet access, and for someone who doesn't use the feature, its just another security risk. Along with this, the setup page is only usable through Internet Explorer. Being a windows user this is not a major drawback, but for any linux user this can be quite a problem. The setup pages are also somewhat complex, requiring multiple page navigations to reach a single option. However, despite these drawbacks, the router has excellent logging capabilites that are far better than my Linksys. Overall the F5D6231-4 is a decent router and I recommend it to any wireless windows customers.
